Blue Rodeo was formed in1984 in Toronto, and they performed at the local level for a time before signing a recording contract with Warner Music Canada. They released their first album in 1987, and have since released 11 additional works. They have also collaborated with non-country acts such as Sarah McLachlan, The Tragically Hip, Burton Cummings and the Cowboy Junkies, among others.
